“And by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross”. Colossians 1:20

IF ONE CHECKS THE NEWS ONLINE these days, or watches on TV, there will doubtlessly be mention of peace talks or the pursuit of peace in some form. But this is no different from any other time in human history, for human history is the history of conflict. Yes, geopolitical conflict, but also conflict even at the level of individuals.

This past Sunday, the Second Sunday of Advent, many churches lit the Peace Candle and pondered the coming of the “Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). And while Christ does bring peace between humans, there is a more fundamental peace that He has accomplished: He brings peace between people by first bringing peace between mankind and God.

Scripture tells us that in our sinful rebellion, humanity is at enmity with God (Romans 8:7). But as Colossians 1:20 (above) says, through the death of Christ on the cross, there is peace and reconciliation for all who will turn to Him in faith. By taking my sin upon Himself on the cross and bearing the punishment that was due me, I may know peace with God. Trust in Christ today, and you shall know peace. Real peace. Everlasting peace through the “Prince of Peace”.
