As those who have repented and believed in the gospel of Jesus Christ and been baptized upon profession of faith, we covenant together with earnest solemnity and great joy as members of Cranbrook Fellowship Baptist Church. With earnest solemnity because the Church is the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, and the household of God, and thus the highest institution under heaven. And with great joy because we covenant with one another as those beloved in Christ.
We speak herein of a “church covenant” because that is exactly what church membership represents: a covenantal relationship between believers in Christ. As those who are bound together by loving bonds that are stronger than any earthly bonds, we promise to walk together, to rejoice with those who rejoice and to weep with those who weep, and to bear one another’s burdens.
We will seek one another’s growth “in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”, our sanctification and growth into the image of Christ so that together we may one day be presented to Him as “a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle”.
We expect that all, with the enabling of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, will walk circumspectly, fleeing sin and pursuing righteousness. And we expect that all will support the church in prayer, in service, and financially as the Lord enables us. We look to each one to not forsake the gathering of ourselves together but to pursue the unity of the church. And should we see any falling away, we pledge to see them restored in all love.
We pledge to one another that we will be a friend for all times and family together, as long as the Lord in His good providence allows us to walk together. And as a symbol of this mutual covenant, we extend to each one upon entrance into this covenant the right hand of fellowship.
“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Rom 15:5,6
*The Church Covenant above is read upon the entrance of each new member of CFBC. We endeavour to live this out together as a Church family, partnering in the ministry of the gospel here in our local congregation.
