“Thus says the Lord: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season, then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne…”
Jeremiah 33:21, 22
WHAT IS GOD SAYING AND PROMISING through the pen of the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah? What does he mean when He speaks of His covenant with the day and with the night? We would express it this way, “As sure as day follows night…” or “As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow…” He says, “If you could somehow prevent the sun from rising tomorrow (Impossible!), then only would my covenant with David be broken.
And what is this covenant with David? Jeremiah makes that clear as we read on: That David will have a son (or better a Son) who will reign eternally on His throne. And lastly, who is that “Son”? Christ!
For God the Father raised Jesus from the dead, He exalted Christ back to heaven, to “the right hand of the Majesty on high”. And there He reigns even now. But it gets better, for He is coming again and will reign eternally. Therefore… bend the knee to Him now. Receive Him by faith as Lord and Saviour. And thus, you will be gathered around His throne eternally.
