“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”
II Corinthians 13:14
AS WE CONTINUE TO consider some of the attributes of God and how they relate to the gospel message of salvation in Christ, we will consider today what is perhaps His most essential attribute: He is the Triune God. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (II Cor 13:14 above). One God existing in three Persons.
And as we think Biblically about the gospel, we see that all three Persons of the Trinity are active in our salvation. Paul writes of this in Ephesians 1, where God the Father is declared to have planned, purposed and ordained our salvation “before the foundation of the world” (Eph 1:4). And Christ–God the Son–accomplished our salvation on the cross. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins…” (Eph 1:7). And the Holy Spirit applies Christ's work to the believer, convicting of sin and bringing us to faith and repentance. And then, as Paul points out, still in Eph 1, the believer is “sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance” (Eph 1:13,14).
What a glorious and amazing Triune God, He is! For it is by the grace, love, mercy, and power of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit that there is life and salvation for all who turn to Him in faith.
