“And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3b

IN GENESIS 12, GOD FIRST MAKES a covenant, a promise, with Abraham. God promises that He will make Abraham “a great nation”, and He will bless those who bless them and curse those who curse them. And then God adds, “And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” How is that? How are all the nations of the world blessed in Abraham?

All are blessed for the Saviour of the world–Jesus Christ–is born in the line of Abraham. (See the genealogies in Matthew 1 and Luke 3.) God always keeps His promises. In this case, He brings the promise given to Abraham to fulfillment approximately 2000 years later in Christ.

In Jesus, “all the families of the earth” are blessed because in Him is salvation and eternal life for all who will turn to Him in faith. In Jesus, “all the families of the earth” are blessed because He died in our place on the cross, with our sin upon Him. In Jesus, “all the families of the earth” are blessed because He rose again from the dead, conquering death for all who will turn to Him in faith.

Aren’t you glad that God always keeps His promises? Come to Jesus today and be blessed.
